The most basic of basics when it comes to teaching defense. A coach is in front of the players that stay one behind each other (you can do this with a bigger group as well easier, even if the space in the gym is smaller, you can make sure they learn the right way to slide in defense), the coach shows the directions where the players need to slide. In this drill, you can add jumps or some other exercises with different hand signals that will help players keep their heads up.
Coaching Points:
- The first step is always explosive and energetic.
- Make sure the players don’t jump, cross their legs, or drag their legs while doing the slides.
